Kaba Modern is an urban dance group established in 1992 by Arnel Calvario.   As a proud part of the Filipino-American club Kababayan, at the University of California, Irvine, he founded the group to perform in the modern dance suite of their annual PCN (Pilipino cultural night).  The group has since evolved to be one of the most cutting edge Hip Hop dance crews in California.   Kaba Modern’s legacy has lived on first and foremost as a family of artists, while embracing diverse styles of dance styles to create a name for themselves in the dance community.
         As their family grew, so did their need to express our artistry to a broader spectrum of audience by taking their act throughout the west coast to various exhibition venues and competing in several dance competitions.  Kaba Modern has a rich history of award-winning performances such as taking first place several years in the past at competitions such as Bust-A-Groove, Body Rock, Fusion, and Vibe. In fact, they placed 1st in the nationals and 2nd place in the world category at the 2007 Hip Hop International dance competition.  Kaba Modern was also most recently featured as one of the final crews on the 1st season of the hit MTV show, America’s Best Dance Crew.
         Kaba Modern’s dedication to dance and to each other is a unique energy that shines on and off stage, providing them with a charisma and unique dance style they are known for.  Their mission is:  We are a family committed to utilizing our passion for the art of dance to inspire and cross all boundaries within diverse communities through artistic expression, humility, constant growth, and respect for all people.
